Lot# 43. S/N 00867S103675. Red/red vinyl. odo: 2 miles. 283-ci 230-hp V8, 2x4-bbl, 4-sp. Top quality restoration is still nice despite some age-related wear. Excellent paint and brightwork, good glass and gaskets. Very good vinyl seats, nice tuxedo carpets. Dash shows well, with great gauge faces. Underhood is detailed, now needs some light touch-up work. Cond: 2-
If you restored a car and then didn't drive or start it for five, ten, or fifteen years, all parts of the car that came in contact with fluids would be suspect. That was the issue here, as this museum-stored piece could need from a few hundred to a few too many thousands of dollars of recommissioning. For the handy enthusiast, this could have been a jackpot. Two or three weeks of working underneath might earn him $20,000 or more on the sale side.
Lot# S117. S/N E57S100048. Venetian Red/beige vinyl. Odo: 110 miles. 283-ci 283-hp V8, 4-sp. Frame-off restoration with many NOS parts. Documentatrion includes a binder full of photos and receipts. Auxiliary hard top also restored. Optional radio, heater, parking brake alarm, whitewall tires, and Positraction. Appears authentic. Lights, heater, and horn all work. Cond: 1
These cars normally fetch far more, so the buyer clearly triumphed. A beautiful ’57 convertible at a below market price. Very well bought.
Lot# 32. S/N 30867S114643. White/black vinyl. Odo: 3,446 miles. 327-ci 365-hp fuel-injected V8, 4-sp. Quality respray lacking luster. Door jams over-restored, door fit off. Chrome and trim nice, engine highly detailed. Correct knockoffs fitted. Interior very presentable, with only minor carpet wear showing. Cond: 2+
The price paid would be in the ball park for a L75 327-ci 300-hp convertible. Corvette buyers had some questions here, as the price should have been $50k higher for a no-issues fuelie. Assuming everything was sorted, this was an excellent buy at well under market value.
Lot# F197. S/N 194676S103678. Yellow/black vinyl. Odo: 69,777 miles. 327-ci 350-hp V8, 4-bbl, 4-sp. Cracks, chips and age checking in older paint, large cracks on nose. Glass, trim, and chrome still show well. Driver’s armrest issues visible in older interior, dash and instrumentation still crisp. Side pipes, two tops. Cond: 3
Said to have never been restored, but that must not have been counting the obvious older repaint. This car had lots to like and would have made an excellent driver. It could have some bargain potential—but a very close inspection would have been needed to assess the amount of originality still present.
Lot# S132. S/N 194378S420942. Rally Red/black vinyl. 427-ci 390-hp V8, 4-bbl, auto. Paint shows a few minor flaws, including some chipping and areas of orange peel. Panel fit and chrome decent, but not perfect. Interior shows a small tear in driver’s seat. Engine compartment mostly original and very presentable. Cond: 3+
This 1968 big block ’Vette would have been a very nice driver as it was, not to mention its future restoration and investment potential. Red Corvettes always turn heads, and this one was a decent buy at under $30k.
Lot# 29. S/N E57S105176. Venetian Red/orange vinyl. Odo: 86 miles. 283-ci 283-hp fuel-injected V8, 4-sp. A full-on restoration to a quality not often seen. Excellent paint, brightwork done to a very high standard. Underhood is clean and correct, with all GM components. The interior is a correctly done job, with excellent door panels, seats, and a well-done dash. Cond: 1
This price was quite reasonable in this market. With fuel injection, 283 hp, and a 4-speed transmission, it's hard to ask for more in a ’57. The catalog stated that the numbers for the engine, transmission, fuel injection unit, and rear end are all correct for late 1957—but that was not saying this was an original numbers-matching car. Still, well bought.
Lot# F57 S/N 19467S715499. Riverside Gold/black vinyl. odo: 6,293 miles. 427-ci 390-hp V8, 4-bbl, 4-sp. Excellent resprayed Riverside Gold paint, otherwise completely original. Interior shows very light wear, top has heavier wear and is frayed at the edges. Good engine compartment, original window sticker. A strong car with loads of originality. Cond: 2-
This ’69 Corvette had the same owner since 1971, and he clearly pampered it over the years. The L36 390-hp 427s are great performing cars without the wildness of the 435-hp cars, but the L71 always commands the top dollars. This one sold for well below market value for an L36. A real bargain for a car of this quality.
Lot# 599. S/N 10867S105784. Beige & white/fawn vinyl. Odo: 49,796 miles. 283-ci 270-hp V8, 2x4-bbl, 4-sp. Very recent restoration with only 50 miles covered since completion. Bare-body repaint, all new brightwork, engine completely rebuilt. Little to fault here, aside over restoration in places. Offered without reserve. Cond: 1-
A nearly flawless car for less than the cost of restoration. Add in the cost of the car, and the buyer was well ahead of the game. The seller is likely not a happy man, but such is the risk of offering a car at no reserve.
Lot# F27. S/N 1H1YY12S015130857. Red/black leather. Odo: 13,716 miles. 5.7-liter 385-hp fuel-injected V8, 6-sp. Excellent paint, nice panel gaps, glass unmarked. Engine compartment shows some use, tires and rims only slightly worn. Driver seat base shows dirt and wear, remaining interior components nice. Offered at no reserve Cond: 2+
This first-year Z06 was the king of all Corvettes when it was introduced in 2001, but all ’05 and newer ’Vettes came standard with more power. Still, these are quite capable performers, and this one had normal wear for the 13k miles indicated. Well bought.
Lot# F472. S/N 40837S107167. Saddle Tan/tan vinyl. Odo: 68,751 miles. 327-ci 300-hp V8, 4-bbl, 4-sp. Very nice never-completely-apart Corvette coupe. Body-on restored during the mid 1990s. Paint has not lost much of its initial lustre, body gaps excellent. Interior shows minor use throughout. Engine bay well detailed ostensibly for the auction preview and looks like the most recently done part of the car. Optioned with ps, pb, a/c, and period aftermarket Hays ignition box under the hood. Cond: 2+
I love well-kept mostly-original refreshed cars like this, as they represent the best compromise between show and driver quality. A body-shop owner in Las Vegas owned the car and brought it here with a $70,000 reserve, but he pulled that reserve at $45k, selling the car to a happy new owner. Very well bought.
